The author received the Ph.D. degree at the University of Bucharest (Romania) in foraminiferal micropaleontology and biostratigraphy with a thesis on the upper Jurassic and Cretaceous planktic foraminifera in the Romanian Western Black Sea offshore. It was followed by three postdoctoral fellowships at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey as Senior Fulbright Fellow, at the University of Milan as NATO Fellow and at the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. His research focuses especially on the development of the Theory of Evolution and evolutionary classification and nomenclature based on the data form the Cretaceous planktic foraminifera worldwide.
