The papers included in this volume were originally presented at the International Woollard Symposium held at the Kahala Hilton Hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii, December 8 through December 10, 1974. The symposium honored Professor George P. Woollard on the occasion of his 66th birthday. It was cosponsored by the University of Hawaii, where Professor Woollard is Director of the University of Hawaii's Institute of Geophysics, by the U.S. Geodynamics Committee, by the Inter-Union Commission on Geodynamics of the International Council of Scientific Unions, and by the following Sponsoring and Organizing Committee: Philip H. A Program Committee was charged with inviting papers from internationally known scientists, for the following sessions: Gravity and Geodesy Seismology Magnetism Marine Geology and Tectonics Volcanology and Petrology Tectonophysics.
