Papua New Guinea, also known as the "Land of the Unexpected" is an uncontaminated world at the centre of that endless chain of islands stretching from Asia across Indonesia to the southern Pacific Ocean. Volcanoes smothered with lush vegetation, untamed, untouched vegetation: this is the substance of a microcosm that underwater explodes into a psychedelic experience of colour and form. Marine photographer Franco Banfi accompanies his own photographs with accounts of diving and exploring underwater cathedral-like caves, swimming with multi-coloured coral fish, and observing hard coral formations that host the most extraordinary underwater fauna and flora.
