A highly innovative textbook offering an integrated approach to biochemistry as applications of chemistry in health and medicine are used to illustrate the key concepts. Organic and biochemistry concepts are included in every chapter, so that students can engage in topics directly related to their study. This text provides students with everything they need to learn the fundamentals of chemistry in the context of their future careers.
Connections between chemical concepts and healthcare are made throughout each chapter by beginning with an opening relevant story, moving on to covering the chemical concept and ending each chapter.
Denise Guinn received her BA in chemistry from the University of California at San Diego and her Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin. She was a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University before joining Abbott Laboratories as a Research Scientist in the Pharmaceutical Products Discovery Research Group. Her area of research is synthetic organic chemistry; she has published in the Journal of Organic Chemistry, the Journal of the American Chemical Society, and the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry.
