Including the basics of how, where and why to view an eclipse, this book also presents much of the history, mythology, solar science and astrodynamics of eclipses. The new edition has been updated to include information on the August 1999 eclipse and the major eclipses of the following decade.
On 11th July 1991, a total eclipse was visible from Hawaii, Mexico, Central America and South America, and more than 30,000 people from the United States alone travelled to it. The University of Hawai Press published for this event Mark Littmann and Ken Willcox's first edition of "Totality: Eclipses of the Sun". This treatment of eclipses proved to be a useful resource for eclipse watchers and students of astronomy. Including the basics of how, where and why to view an eclipse and view it safely, the book also presents much of the history, mythology, solar science and astrodynamics of eclipses. The new edition has been updated to include information on the August 1999 eclipse over much of Europe, Turkey and southern Africa, as well as information on the major eclipses of the following decade. Fred Espenak, astrophysicist and eclipse photographer, is added to the team of authors and contributes his expertise, as well as colour photographs to the book.
