The book combines vehicle systems dynamics with the latest theoretical developments in dynamics of non-smooth systems and numerical analysis of differential-algebraic dynamical systems with discontinuities. These two fields are fundamental for the modelling and analysis of vehicle dynamical sytems. The results are also applicable to other non-smooth dynamical systems.

Per Grove Thomsen was born in Esbjerg, Denmark, 1941. M.Sci. in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics at DTH in 1967. Visiting Research Assistant at Dept. of Mathematics, University of Dundee 1971-72. Assoc. Prof. in Numerical Analysis, DTU 1974. Visiting Professor at Dept. of Computer Science , University of Waterloo, 1983-84. Visiting the Mittag-Leffler Institute in Stockholm, Sweden in May 1998. 1987-2009. Reader in Numerical Analysis at IMM, DTU.

Born in 1936, Hans True received his PhD in 1964 at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). He became a Fulbright Fellow 1964-67 and an Alexander von Humboldt fellow 1970-71. From 1969 till 2003 he taught Applied Mathematics at DTU. Hans True founded 'True Consult' and became elected trustee of 'The International Association of Vehicle Systems Dynamics' (IAVSD). He was elected President in 2003. Hans True has been a guest researcher at several institutions.
