Carbon dioxide is a major greenhouse gas. There are several technological options for sequestration of CO2 into one of the other global pools, including oceanic injection, geological injection, and scrubbing and mineral carbonation. The cost and leakage are principal issues of the geological sequestration which need to be resolved. For those reasons, the utilization of CO2 is being considered as an attractive solution to solve CO2 issues. To promote research and
development in CO2 areas, we organized a symposium on CO2 conversion and utilization as a part of the 238th American Chemical Society (ACS) National Meeting, August 16-20, 2009, Washington, DC. This symposium was sponsored by the ACS Division of Fuel Chemistry. This book was developed on this ACS
symposium.

This book contains 16 peer-reviewed chapters that cover various aspects of CO2 conversion and utilization. This ACS book focuses on the following topics: application of solar energy for CO2 conversion (Chapters 1-3), synthesis of organic compounds from CO2 (Chapters 4-9), CO2 reforming of methane into synthesis gas (Chapters 10-12), CO2 adsorption and absorption (Chapters 13-15), and chemical lungs for CO2 conversion into oxygen (Chapter 16). Most of those chapters were developed from ACS
papers presented at the symposium and others were from invited contributors in the related research areas. All chapters were contributed by active research groups from universities, national laboratories, or industrial research organizations worldwide.

Yun Hang Hu is Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Michigan Technological University.
