Combining the contemporary knowledge from the sources, this is a comprehensive overview of the field. In maintaining a balance between theory and experiment, this book guides both advanced students and specialists to this research area. It focusses on the correlations between electronic structure and magnetic properties.
Combining the contemporary knowledge from widely scattered sources, this is a much-needed and comprehensive overview of the field. In maintaining a balance between theory and experiment, the book guides both advanced students and specialists to this research area. Topical reviews written by the foremost scientists explain recent trends and advances, focusing on the correlations between electronic structure and magnetic properties. The book spans recent trends in magnetism for molecules - as well as inorganic-based materials, with an emphasis on new phenomena being explored from both experimental and theoretical viewpoints with the aim of understanding magnetism on the atomic scale. The volume helps readers evaluate their own experimental observations and serves as a basis for the design of new magnetic materials. The topics covered include: Metallocenium Salts of Radical Anion Bis - (dichalcogenate) metalates; Chiral Molecule-Based Magnets; Cooperative Magnetic Behavior in Metal-Dicyanamide; Complexes Lanthanide Ions in Molecular Exchange Coupled Systems Monte Carlo Simulation; Metallocene-Based Magnets; and Magnetic Nanoporous Molecular Materials.
This is a unique reference work, indispensable for everyone concerned with the phenomena of magnetism.

Joel S. Miller is a distinguished Professor of Chemistry at the University of Utah. He received his Ph D from the University of California, Los Angeles, and was a post--doctoral associate at Stanford University. After two decades of research at Industrial Laboratories, he joined the University of Utah in 1993. Professor Miller received the 2000 American Chemical Society Award for Chemistry of Materials for his discovery of organic--based magnets. His current research interests are the magnetic, electrical, and optical properties of molecule--based materials. Marc Drillon has been director of research at CNRS since 1985. He is head of the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of Materials at University Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg. He is a member of various national committees and has received awards from CNRS, the French Chemical Society and the French Academy of Science. His research interests in magnetic materials include the correlations between structure and properties, focusing more specifically on low dimensional architectures isolated in molecule--based or inorganic magnets. Over the last few years, Marc Drillon has been actively involved in the design and study of new hybrid organic--inorganic magnetic materials.
