Summarizes the essential aspects of this field of chemistry. This book offers an introduction to the concept of fluorous biphase catalysis, summaries of partition coefficients involving fluorous and organic solvents, and information on the fluorous mixture separation techniques.
Edited by the leading experts John Gladysz, Dennis Curran, and Istvan Horvath, this handbook is the first to summarize all the essential aspects of this emerging field of chemistry. Whether the reader is seeking an introduction to the concept of fluorous biphase catalysis, summaries of partition coefficients involving fluorous and organic solvents, or information on the latest fluorous mixture separation techniques, this authoritative compilation of contributions, written by the world s top authors, provides key information needed for successfully working with the diverse and fascinating families of fluorous molecules.

John A. Gladysz received his BS and PhD degrees at the University of Michigan and Stanford University. His academic career has included faculty appointments at UCLA (1974 - 1982), the University of Utah (1982 - 1998), and the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (1998 - present). His honors include the ACS Award in Organometallic Chemistry (1994) and a von Humboldt Foundation Research Award for Senior Scientists (1995 - 1996). He has been an Associate Editor of Chemical Reviews since 1984. Dennis P. Curran received his BS degreee from Boston College and his PhD from the University of Rochester. After postdoctoral studies at the University of Wisconsin, he joined the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh in 1981 and is now the Bayer Professor and Distinguished Service Professor of Chemistry. He is the founder of Flurous Technologies, Inc., and his awards include the American Chemical Society Award for Creative Work in Organic Synthesis (2000) and the Janssen Prize (1998). Istvan T. Horvath received his Diploma and PhD degrees from Veszprem University (Hungary). He was a postdoctoral associate at Yale University (1982 - 1984) and a scientific coworker at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zurich (1984 1987). He began his independent career at Exxon Research and Engineering Company (Annadale, New Jersey) in 1987, and returned to Hungary as Professor at Eotvos University (Budapest) in 1999.he is the Editor-in-Chief of the "Encyclopedia of Catalysis", and has charired numerous meetings and symposia in the areas of green chemistry and catalysis.
