Starting from the methodical basics right up to practical applications, this book represents a comprehensive overview of this type of reaction, saving readers time-consuming research among the literature.
Here, Professor J. Otera brings together for the first time the combined knowledge about this elementary yet multifaceted reaction. Starting from the methodical basics right up to practical applications, this book represents a comprehensive overview of this type of reaction, saving readers time-consuming research among the literature - and not just in practical matters. It is all set to become a standard reference for every organic chemist. From the contents, the topics include: Methodology; Reaction of Alcohols with Carboxylic Acids and Their Derivatives; Reactions with Carboxylic Acids; Reaction with Esters: Transesterification; Reaction with Acid Anhydrides; Reaction with Acid Halides and Related Compounds; Conversion of Alcohols to Esters through Carbonylation Synthetic Applications; Kinetic Resolution; Enzymatic Resolution; Nonenzymatic Resolution; Asymmetric Desymmetrization; Deacetylation through Transesterification; Selective Esterification; Applications to Natural Product Synthesis; New Reaction Media; and, Industrial Uses. CD-ROM/DVD and other supplementary materials are not included as part of eBook file.

Junzo Otera was born in Hyogo, Japan in 1943. He received undergraduate as well as graduate education in Osaka University. Immediately after earning the PhD degree in 1971, he became a research chemist in Central Research Laboratories of Kuraray Co. In 1979, he moved to?Okayama University of Science as Associate Professor and has been Full Professor since 1986. In the meantime, he served as a visiting professor in many universities in Japan, USA, France, Spain, and Australia. His research interests are focused on Lewis acid catalysts, heteroatom chemistry, and green process chemistry.
