Subterranean Rodents

PD Dr. Sabine begall, Jg. 1968, ist Biologin, seit 2000 wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin, seit 2010 Akademische Rätin am Lehrstuhl für Allgemeine Zoologie der Universität Duisburg-Essen. Schon im Rahmen ihrer 1995 angefertigten Examensarbeit beschäftigte sie sich mit der Entwicklung und dem Körperwachstum von sambischen Kleingraumullen. Während ihrer Promotion studierte sie subterran lebende Coruros in Chile; die Dissertation wurde mit dem Fritz-Frank-Preis ausgezeichnet. Forschungsreisen führten Sabine Begall 2007 auf Expedition nach Sambia, 2008 an die Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio und mehrfach während der letzten Jahre an die Prager Karls-Universität der Tschechischen Republik. Sie ist an diversen Aspekten der Biologie subterraner Nager interessiert, insbesondere an der Sinnesbiologie. Sie ist Autorin bzw. Koautorin von 30 Originalarbeiten und etlichen populärwissenschaftlichen Beiträgen. Außerdem hat sie ein deutschsprachiges Lehrbuch zur Evolution und eine wissenschaftliche Monographie über subterrane Nagetiere (mit)herausgegeben.

Prof. Dr. Hynke Burda, Jg. 1952, ist Biologe, seit 1995 Lehrstuhlinhaber für Allgemeine Zoologie an der Universität Duisburg-Essen und Gastprofessor an der Südböhmischen Universität in Ceské Budejovice (Budweis) sowie Gastprofessor an der Agraruniversität in Prag. Seit 1986 hält, züchtet und erforscht er Graumulle sowie andere Arten unterirdisch lebender Säugetiere im Labor. Ein besonderes Augenmerk gilt der Sinnesbiologie dieser, aber auch anderer, Säugetiere. Expeditionen führten ihn im Laufe der vergangenen Dekaden u.a. nach Sambia, Malawi und Simbabwe. Er ist Autor bzw. Koautor von 130 Originalarbeiten in Fachzeitschriften, zahlreichen Buchkapiteln, von drei erfolgreichen Lehrbüchern, Mitherausgeber einer wissenschaftlichen Monographie über subterrane Nagetiere, sowie Autor von zahlreichen populärwissenschaftlichen Beiträgen in diversen Medien.
