A prostaglandin is any member of a group of lipid compounds that are derived enzymatically from fatty acids and have important functions in the animal body. Every prostaglandin contains 20 carbon atoms, including a 5-carbon ring. This book examines the biological role of prostaglandins in drug discovery, and on immune cells.
A prostaglandin is any member of a group of lipid compounds that are derived enzymatically from fatty acids and have important functions in the animal body. Every prostaglandin contains 20 carbon atoms, including a 5-carbon ring. They are mediators that participate in the regulation of multiple biological processes, both in health and disease. Prostaglandins contribute to the regulation of vascular tone, platelet function, and fertility. They also play key roles as inflammatory mediators and modulators of tumor biology. Although they are technically hormones, they are rarely classified as such. This book examines the biological role of prostaglandins in drug discovery, and on immune cells; the prostaglandin interchange; and the roles of prostaglandin E2 in inflammation-related cardiovascular disease as well as other related topics of import.

Preface; Cyclopentenone Prostaglandins: Signalling Mechanisms & Opportunities for Drug Discovery; Prostaglandins Regulate Growth & Transport in Cultured Renal Cells; Comparative Effects of PGE2 on Different Types of Immune Cells in Holothurian Eupentacta fraudatrix; Pharmacological Differentiation of Bimatoprost & Latanoprost Induced Ocular Hypotension by a Second Generation Prostamide Antagonist (AGN 211336); Regulation of Myeloid Derived Phagocytes by Phosphatidylserine-Containing Liposomes: Possible Involvement of Prostaglandin E2 & the Potential Therapeutic Application; Cross-talk between the Receptors of Insulin & Prostacyclin on Platelets Membrane in the Enhancement of Antithrombotic Effect of Insulin; Is mPGES-1 an Ideal Target for Counteracting Inflammation & Escaping Cardiovascular Side Effects Associated with COX-2 Inhibitors? A Brief Overview; Investigation of Kinetics of Behavior of Structures of Prostaglandins of Groups A1, A2, B1, B2 & E1, E2 in Ethanol: Prostaglandin Interchange; Roles of Prostaglandin E2 & its Receptors in Inflammation-Related Cardiovascular Diseases; Regulation of Proinflammatory Transcription Factors by Direct Modification with Cyclopentenone Prostaglandins; Effects of Prostaglandins & Prostamides Analogues on Ocular Blood Flow; Index.
