The program will teach the user how to identify salient clinical problems through observation and reflection on the kinds of judgement and actions exhibited by expert acute and critical care nurses. Pauses in the action to allow the user to consult additional clinical information and record their own perceptions and insights. A printed Instructors Manual, written by Dr. Benner, will describe the program and show how it can be used in courses focused on clinical judgement and also as a model for staff development activities for nurses in practice.Full-motion video enacts a complex trauma case moving through the emergency department, operating room, post-anesthesia care unit, and critical care unit.
Background screens provide access to rich clinical data for the patients caseincluding patient records, clinical notes, heart sounds, EKG tracings, and more.Information screens review relevant clinical knowledge, synthesized by the authors from the most current references, and highlight related passages from Clinical Wisdom and Interventions in Critical Care.
Clinical reviews appear at regular intervals to help user review and synthesize appropriate clinical knowledge. Reviews are made up of certification-style question items taken from Saunders widely known certification review titles in emergency, critical care, and perianesthesia.
