Principles of Medical Physiology

This book is interesting and useful because of what it includes, and is concise and easy-reading because of what it excludes.

What it excludes
- Experimental basis and work of scientists
- Details of molecular biology.
- Comparative physiology
- Details that are:
not clinically important
not conceptually fundamental or interesting
not important from the examination point of view
not contextually relevant.
- Lengthy introductions to the chapters. Some chapters begin without an introduction. This is deliberate. Most students have limited time at their disposal.

What it includes
- Matter presented in a form in which it is not only easy to understand but is also easy to remember and reproduce. Lengthy explanations are good for understanding the subject, which explains why many textbooks are voluminous.
A concise text helps in remembering and reproducing the subject better, which is important for students.

Additional features
- Short chapters organized in the sequence preferred by many Physiology teachers.
- Contents of each chapter tailored to provide just about enough material for a single lecture (occasionally two lectures), making it very handy for teachers.
- Basics of relevant physics and chemistry are explained in very simple words. This would be loved by Physiology Teachers, many of whom have forgotten these basics and find themselves ill at ease when questioned on these by the brighter students.
- Simple analogies of difficult concepts, several of them illustrated comically.
- Highlights apparent paradoxes and provides simple answers to them.
- Clinical topics with strong underpinning of Physiology, that are not discussed adequately in physiology textbooks, e.g. electromyography, electroencephalography, flow-volume loops of pulmonary ventilation, etc.
