Saskia R.J. Thiadens, RN, is the executive director and founder of the National Lymphedema Network(NLN) (founded in 1988). She is the managing-editor of Lymphlink, the official NLN quarterly newsletter, and actively serves on the NLN Medical Advisory and Research committees. She has been the co-program director of 8 successful NLN bi-annual international conferences for professionals and is the founder and coordinator of the Oncology Nursing Society "Lymphedema Management SIG".She is a member of the steering committee for the American Lymphedema Framework Project (ALFP) a new organization which is developing a Best Practice Document for lymphedema. She is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences, and continues as an avid patient/nurse advocate. Dr. Stewart received her undergraduate and master's degrees from Stanford University. She attended the University of Minnesota Medical School, and did her residency training in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Mayo Clinic. She was a staff physician at Charlotte Institute of Rehabilitation, where she served as Director of Research, Director of Cancer Rehabilitation Services, and Director of the Lymphedema Clinic. She is board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and is board certified in the subspecialty of Spinal Cord Medicine. She now serves as Medical Director of Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital. Nicole L. Stout MPT, CLT-LANA, physical therapist, clinical researcher and CLT-LANA lymphedema specialist. She received a Bachelor of Science from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Physical Therapy degree from Chatham College. She is currently the principle investigator on two research protocols studying upper extremity morbidity associated with breast cancer treatment at the Breast Care Center at the National Naval Medical Center. Ms. Stout has lectured and taught internationally on lymphedema and cancer rehabilitation. She is a recognized expert in breast cancer morbidity and early intervention. Currently Ms. Stout is a member of the steering committee for the American Lymphedema Framework project and is working on international policy initiatives for lymphedema treatment in South Africa. She is also serving as the project manager for the clinical specialization initiative for the Oncology Section of the American Physical Therapy Association. Ms. Stout has held positions on the board of directors for the Oncology Section of the American Physical Therapy Association, the Medical Advisory Board for the National Lymphedema Network and the Lymphology Association of North America. She has authored and co-authored over a dozen articles about cancer and lymphedema as well as several book chapters and study monographs.
