Uterine fibroids are one of the commonest benign tumours to affect the female reproductive organs and are often an indication for performing hysterectomy. This text provides a synopsis of current knowledge and examines the aetiology, pathology and accompanying symptoms of uterine fibroids.
Uterine fibroids (leiomyomas) are one of the commonest benign tumours to affect the female reproductive organs and often an indication for performing hysterectomy. Based on an international symposium held in Scotland in September 1991, this book examines the aetiology, pathology and symptoms attributable to the presence of uterine fibroids. Although there still remain important gaps in current knowledge, a number of significant advances have been made in recent times. For example, the development of new endoscopic equipment, particularly laparoscopic laser options and hysteroscopic surgical techniques, have opened up new and less invasive surgical procedures for many patients. This book provides a synopsis of current knowledge and should therefore be of interest to gynaecologists concerned with the management of patients with uterine fibroids.
