Practicing as a radiologist is about more than image interpretation. Professional Skills in Radiology provides a concise handbook of essential non-interpretative skills a medical imaging doctor should possess. The book explores important professional development skills needed to work with diagnostic and procedural radiology patients, within healthcare multidisciplinary teams and in the community. It also provides a resource to bring together important concepts in evidence-based practice, research and quality assurance, medical education, advocacy and ethical practice, and cultural safety.
Professional Skills in Radiology will be an excellent companion resource for training and consultant radiologists, containing practice questions to help prepare for fellowship/board examinations or interview panels.
Dr Sally Ayesa is a radiologist and nuclear medicine specialist from Sydney Australia, who loves to start conversations about radiology practice. After completing her radiology training at Royal Prince Alfred and Royal North Shore Hospitals in Sydney, she went on to complete her nuclear medicine fellowship at Royal North Shore, Prince of Wales and Sydney Children’s Hospitals. She received the prestigious HR Sear Medal for the best performance in the RANZCR Part II radiodiagnosis examination for 2017. Her clinical interests include chest radiology and oncology imaging, with a focus on lung cancer and prostate cancer imaging. She is a staff specialist at Royal North Shore Hospital. Sally is the specialty lead for medical imaging at the University of Sydney Medical School, where she also works in academic support. She is completing a PhD in medical imaging education, considering how we can better educate medical students and non-radiologist clinicians about the fascinating specialties of radiology and nuclear medicine. Sally is a member of the Radiopaedia editorial board, having co-convened the Radiopaedia Virtual Conference in 2022 and 2024. She has previously been a member of the RANZCR Curriculum Assessment Committee and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Taskforce. Sally is currently part of the team working towards implementing the National Lung Cancer Screening Program in Australia.
