Only in recent years new available technologies, the redefinition and refining of intervention techniques, and clinical research studies have widened the spectrum of fat applications in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. Fat grafting is nowadays one of the most used techniques in plastic reconstructive surgery, as primary method or as an ancillary procedure. The optimized ratio of fat survival has led to standardized techniques followed by most practitioners.
The aim of this book is to present up-to-date technologies used for fat extraction, and fat harvesting: latest tools  are evaluated examining pros and cons. All recent techniques in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery and their outcomes are described in a clear, comprehensive manner; chapters present the latest research results in stem cell and regenerative medicine, their application to plastic and reconstructive surgery, in particular for hand surgery, ulcer, and capsule contractures in post breast augmentation procedures. Related specific techniques as breast fat transfer, breast hybrid implant, fat transfer and buttock fat transfer are also discussed. Safety issues in fat transfer procedures are examined accurately, particularly those involving buttock fat transfer. Each procedure is completed by a scientific analysis of the main reasons for complications, how to prevent them and the safety guidelines recommended as golden standard to be followed. The surgical part contains clinical cases related to each chapter topic, videos, and all chapters have a box with take home messages. An invaluable tool for correct decision-making for clinicians, fellows and residents in plastic surgery, Fat Transfer in Plastic Surgery focuses on indications, applications and surgical techniques for each individual body district, and safe and reliable procedures in the application of latest technology.

Professor Alberto Di Giuseppe is a pioneer of ultrasound assisted liposuction and laser, and innovative techniques in aesthetic plastic surgery. He has performed thousands of procedures in aesthetic, plastic and reconstructive surgery, now with an average of 300 aesthetic surgical procedures a year. Dr. Alberto Di Giuseppe has been consultant plastic surgeon in London, UK and at Villalba hospital in Bologna Italy, than, at the Saudi German Hospital in Dubai, UAE, and associate clinical professor of plastic surgery at the University of Padova, Italyand Ancona Italy . He has been part of the ECAM faculty for body contouring procedures and fat transfer since 2008, and editor or coeditor of 10 books in plastic surgery, most with Springer. Dr. Alberto Di Giuseppe is member to most relevant societies of Plastic Surgery as SICPRE (Italian society of plastic surgery), ASAPS (American society of aesthetic plastic surgery), honorary member to the Vietnamese society of plastic surgery, the Romanian society of plastic surgery, the Serbian society of plastic surgery and the Argentina society of plastic surgery.
Professor Franco Bassetto, is Full Professor of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at the Department of Neurosciences, University of Padova, Italy and Chief of the Plastic Surgery Clinic at the University Hospital. In addition he is Chief of the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Reconstructive Residency Program at the University of Padova (accredited by the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery). Dr. Bassetto has been Principal Investigator on 50 research projects regarding issues of surgical anatomy, tissue healing and regeneration, metabolism of obese patients and clinical trials. He is a member of 19 national and international scientific societies and task forces for scientific research programs in plastic surgery. Dr. Bassetto is the author of 110 publications in national and international journals and a keynote speaker at a variety of national and international meetings and CME courses.
Professor Foad Nahai is an acknowledged leader in aesthetic plastic surgery who has developed and refined various aesthetic and cosmetic procedures. He previously served on Emory's plastic surgery faculty from 1978-1997 before leaving to join Dr. T. Roderick Hester's Paces Plastic Surgery, an aesthetics and reconstructive surgery private practice that has long provided training rotations for Emory's plastic surgery residency. Paces officially joined the Emory Clinic in March 2013 as the Emory Aesthetic Center at Paces, and Dr. Nahai was reappointed to the faculty of the Emory Department of Surgery. Professor Nahai's professional memberships encompass numerous international, national, and local plastic surgery  organizations. He is president of the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Centers; has served as president of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (2008-2010) and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (2007-2008); and was director of the American Board of Plastic Surgery (2001-2007). Pr. Nahai has published over 225 papers in peer reviewed journals, has authored or co-authored 11 texts on all aspects of plastic surgery, and is editor-in-chief of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal.
