This volume takes a multidisciplinary approach to the management of testicular cancer. New chapters on the molecular biology of germ cell tumours and the managemment of stage II non-seminoma have been added to this edition.
The management of testicular tumours represents a very dramatic success story in modern medicine. Approximately 85% of metastatic non-seminomas are cured, where 20 years ago the majority of patients with metastases died of their disease. Testicular cancer is thus viewed as the model of a curable malignancy and the principles of its treatment act as a guide to improve the management of other solid tumours. The second edition of this text has been revised and updated. The multidisciplinary approach to the management of testicular cancer is reflected in the contributors, who include surgeons, radiotherapists, medical oncologists and psychologists. The contents are supplemented in this second edition by the addition of new chapters on the molecular biology of germ cell tumours and the management of stage II non-seminoma. This work is aimed at anyone involved in the management of patients with testicular cancer.

Testicular germ cell tumours: an introductory overview. Advances in tumour imaging. Tumour markers. Molecular biology of germ cell tumours. A comparison of the biology and prognosis of seminoma and non-seminoma. Prognostic classification in metastatic non-seminoma. Management of stage I seminoma: radiotherapy. Surveillance for stage I seminoma of the testis. Management of metastatic seminoma: role of radiotherapy. Chemotherapy in metastatic seminoma. Response evaluation in seminoma. Retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy in staging and treatment: the development of nerve-sparing techniques. Management of metastatic non-seminoma: development of effective chemotherapy. Management of stage II non-seminoma by lymphadenectomy. Primary chemotherapy for stage II non-seminoma. Toxicity reduction in the chemotherapy of metastatic germ cell tumours. Dose escalation of cisplatin in the chemotherapy of poor risk germ cell tumour patients. Intensive induction treatment for poor risk patients.
