Obesity brings with it a myriad of problems: medical, financial, psychological, and physical. This book is an educational tool written to answer the common questions posed by patients to health care providers. Topics include available treatments for obesity, weight management programs, diet, exercise, medical and surgical options. The text also addresses different categories and causes of obesity and why we now face an obesity epidemic with its side effects-rising numbers of patients with diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep disorders, and degenerative arthritis. As with all titles in the FAQ series, this book works to educate patients and provide concise, current information for common ailments.
Christopher Doubet Still is the Director of the Center for Nutrition and Weight Management for the Geisinger Health System in Danville, Pennsylvania. Dr. Still has been studying developments in nutrition and obesity for nearly two decades. His work has included research into genetic markers for obesity and diabetes; the metabolic differences among obese, formerly obese, and normal-weight men; and surgical options for severly obese persons. He also serves as principle investigator on a rural elderly nutrition and aging study of 22,000 individuals. Dr. Still received his medical degree from The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. After completing his internship at the University of Buffalo Sisters of Charity Hospital he began his residency at Geisinger Medical Center.
