Herb Amato, DA, ATC was the Athletic Training Program Director for the past 18 years at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. His current role at the University is an Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies. He remains involved with Athletic Training Students in the classroom and with program/student assessment. He has been involved in the education of Athletic Training Students for 25 years at the university and high school levels. Herb has an extensive public speaking and consulting background and has published several articles in the areas of Athletic Training Education and clinical practice. He is also active in service at the community, university, and national levels. Herb resides in Harrisonburg with his wife, Lori, and three daughters, Casey, Lyndy, and Jessy. Christy D. Hawkins, MS, ATC is the Director of Continuing and Professional Education at Thomas Nelson Community College in Hampton, Virginia. In this position, she develops and implements educational programs for the local workforce. She also teaches health and physical education courses at the college. Since 1996, Christy has traveled to colleges and universities throughout the country as a workshop coordinator for Amato-Cole Educational Services (ACES Workshops). She has taught Athletic Training courses at the university level and has coordinated leisure classes for both children and adults. Christy received a Bachelor of Science degree from James Madison University and a Master of Science degree from the University of South Carolina. She is currently pursuing a second Master of Science degree focusing on adult education at Old Dominion University. In her free time, Christy enjoys hiking and traveling, particularly to Alaska to visit her godchildren, Camille, Logan, and Elliot. She resides in Newport News with her husband, David, and three children from the animal kingdom, Jake, Autumn, and Timmie. Steven L. Cole, MEd, ATC, CSCS is the Assistant Athletic Director for Health Services at the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia. He oversees a staff of seven Certified Athletic Trainers and coordinates a regional network of health care specialists to provide athletic health care for nearly 600 student-athletes annually. In addition to his local role with the college, he coordinates an on-site sports medicine program for Busch Entertainment Corporation in Williamsburg, aimed at educating entertainers in the early recognition and self-management of common injuries. Steve is one of the cofounders of the ACES Preparatory Workshops for Athletic Training Students who are eligible to sit for the Board of Certification exam. Steve has served as a consultant to various athletic programs, medical practices, and industrial corporations. He is the sports medicine consultant to Tidewater Physical Therapy Inc, a group of outpatient physical therapy clinics serving the Tidewater area of Virginia. He has extensive public speaking and consulting experience, from local to international, and has published several articles relevant to athletic health care and the administration of health care programs. Steve is a member of the Virginia High School League Sports Medicine Advisory Committee, the Legislative Committee for the Virginia Athletic Trainers' Association, and the Athletic Training Liaison to the Colonial Athletic Association. A competitive triathlete, Steve resides in Williamsburg with his wife, Lonna, and two daughters, Sydney and Jahnessa.
