Although rhinoplasty is nowadays a frequently performed intervention, it is still a most complex procedure in facial plastic surgery, due to the crucial issue of careful nasal septum management and related nasal obstructions. Thought as a go-to resource and resulting from the author's/editor's lifelong surgical practice and research work, this carefully crafted volume covers the topic of nasal septum management in its entirety, supporting the reader with a wealth of full colour original illustrations and drawings. Each chapter is also enriched by surgical videos to foster the reader's understanding and preparation of practical steps and best choices, offering direct support in the operating room. The chapters move from the history of nasal septum management and the examination of the necessary surgical anatomy to the preoperative nose examination and planning. The following chapters on the classification of septal deviation and the review of the different incisions and approaches bring to the examination of the traditional surgical methods (SMR, Cottle, Subtotal, extracorporeal). The contents then illustrate caudal septal deflections and a number of specific deviations in related chapters (dorsal, dorso-caudal and bony deviations). A particular chapter is devoted to dorsum preservation and nasal septum, the event of septal perforation, as well as ancillary procedures and packing and splinting. Septal Surgery Challenges in Rhinoplasty is especially thought for residents and specialists in the field of otorhinolaryngology and plastic surgery, who desire to consolidate their management skills in this demanding yet inspiring field of surgery.

Professor Fazil Apaydin graduated from Ege University Medical Faculty in 1985 and finished his ENT residency at the department of otorhinolaryngology at the same university. A steady progression lead to his being promoted to full professor in 2004. While being associate professor he specialized also in facial plastic surgery, working as visiting fellow at the department of otorhinolaryngology and head and neck surgery of the University of Illinois, Chicago, USA. There he had the opportunity to practice rhinoplasty with Eugene Tardy and Dean Toriumi, and developed the bases for a database of his own conception, specifically used for record keeping and facial analysis. Prof Apaydin has served as President and organized congresses for the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery (EAFPS) and sat in its executive board. He is also Past President of the Facial Plastic Surgery Working Group and then the Society, and the Turkish Society for Ootorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery. He sits in the executive board of International Federation of Facial Plastic Surgery Societies. He has been the first Turkish surgeon to pass the US board exam for certification in facial plastic surgery in Washington, and has served five years in the European board for certification in facial plastic surgery. He has been traveling and lecturing widely all over the world. His main focus is on rhinoplasty, reconstruction of facial defects, otoplasty, rehabilitation of facial paralysis and challenging reconstructive interventions. The ENT department at the Ege University is an EAFPS recognized Center of Excellence that welcomes fellows from all over Europe and the world.
