This Open Access book on Complications in Neurosurgery contains the proceedings of the 2nd ICCN conference held in Mumbai in 2019. The work illustrates and discusses key point of intra- and postoperative complications encountered in brain, spine and peripheral nerve surgery. In addition, this compilation addresses topics in ethics, with further contributions covering medico legal and didactic aspects.

It draws from the experience of an international team of experts from all subspecialties in neurosurgery, including oncology, vascular, spine, pediatrics and others.

The articles were written by renown specialists in the field who are stepping forward to share their valuable professional experience with colleagues following their joint mission to improve future patient care.

Dr. Keki Turel graduated from Grant Medical College and J.J Group of Hospitals, one of the oldest in Mumbai and India. He got his P.G. degree (Master in Surgery) in Neurosurgery in 1975 and was Head of Dept. of Neurosurgery, Bombay Hospital, 1994-2011 where he remains Prof. Emeritus. He organized landmark conferences in Mumbai while presiding over many associations and was Chairman and Organizer of the first ever 'International Conference on Complications in Neurosurgery' (March 2017). He remains the President of Skull Base Trust of India, since its inception in 1998.

 

Dr. Ekkehard Kasper graduated from Freiburg University Medical School in Germany with magna cum laude as Doctor of Medicine (MD) by thesis. He obtained a Doctor of Philosophy Degree from Oxford University, where he studied Neurobiology as a Rhodes Scholar 1988-1991 under Dr. Colin Blakemore. After his return to Germany, he worked with Dr. Christoph Ostertag at the University of Freiburg in Neurosurgical Oncology as well as Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery before continuing his training at Harvard/Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. After graduating from residency, he became faculty member and Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at Harvard Medical School. From 2018-2021 he served as Professor and Academic and Clinical Head of Neurosurgery at McMaster University, before returning to Boston in his current position.
