"Recent Advances" is a series which provides timely updates on developments across the range of medical specialties. As this long-established series moves into the 90s, volumes now include new features to ensure their usefulness for readers. Special features of the series now include: shorter, more digestible chapters, each finishing with a summary of key clinical practice points; more frequent and up to date volumes - surgery, paediatrics, haematology and psychiatry volumes are now produced annually to tie with postgraduate exams while others are produces at least every 2 years; the volumes are more clinical and practical, ideally suited to a consultant working in a district general hospital; and the authorship is now more international.
