Nanobiotechnology: Applications of Nanomaterials in Biotechnology, Medicine, and Healthcare covers vast application areas that include medical science, material science, pharmaceutical science, and environmental science. Section 1 presents recent research updates on the different nanomaterials, which are promising in different medical and biotechnological applications. Applications of nanomaterials as bone replacement orthopedic implants have revolutionized the treatment of orthopedic surgery. Nanostructured polymeric materials have gained immense research attention as therapeutic carriers for the precise delivery of drugs at targeted sites. Nanocellulose is recognized as a promising green nanomaterial due to its renewability and abundance in nature. Scientific topics on the most recent scientific and technological advances and applications of different nanostructured materials are presented in this section. Section 2 focuses on the novel synthesis methods that are used extensively and are promising for large-scale production of inorganic and nanostructured materials. Section 3 covers the applications of nanotools in the treatment of different diseases, including cancers and genetic diseases. The increasing use of nanotechnology will bring changes in the manufacturing processes of nanomaterials. The applications of nanomaterials in the field of medical imaging and molecular detection are presented in section 4. Tridib Kumar Bhowmick, Assistant Professor, Department of Bioengineering, National Institute of Technology Agartala, completed his Ph. D from Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India, in 2009. Currently, Dr. Bhowmick is involved to explore north east region of India representing biodiversity hotspot with endemic flora and fauna, to identify promising microalgae strains as resource for alternative renewable energy production. During his PhD, he had worked on Indian traditional medicine. He was a postdoctoral research fellow in the Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology Research, University of Maryland, College Park, MD from 2008 to 2013. His research on nanomaterials and targeted delivery of therapeutic molecules had made a number of publications in reputed international journals. He has published two edited books, ten book chapters, more than fourty research articles and presented his works in national and international conferences. Dr. Kalyan Gayen is working as an academician in the Department of Chemical Engineering, NIT Agartala, India. Previously, he worked as an assistant professor for two years in the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Gandhinagar, India and also worked as post doctoral fellow at University of California Santabarbara, USA for two years. He has completed his PhD in the field of Chemical Engineering from IIT Bombay, India and master degree from IIT Kharagpur, India. His current research is primarily focused on the microalgae based biofuels and bioproducts, value added chemicals from lignocellulosic biomass, fermentation technology and systems biology. Dr. Kalyan Gayen guided three PhD students, published more than 50 international journal articles, thirteen book chapters, and two edited books. Dr. Sunil K. Maity is currently working as a Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, India. Before this, he served about two and half years as an Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Technology Rourkela, India. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. His current research interests are (i) biorefinery for biofuels and chemicals, (ii) heterogeneous catalysis and chemical reaction engineering, and (iii) techno-economic analysis using Aspen Plus and pinch technology. He is currently working on hydrodeoxygenation of vegetable oils, steam and oxidative steam reforming, production of gasoline, butylene, and aromatics from bio-butanol, hydroxyalkylation-alkylation reaction, and catalytic conversion of butanediols to value-added chemicals. He has executed several externally funded and consultancy projects. He published two edited books, nine book chapters, forty journal articles, and several national and international conferences.
