The second edition of this atlas focuses on imaging methods and techniques, new diagnostic concepts and therapeutic approaches in management of pancreatic neoplasms. Although interest in pancreatic pathology is very high in the radiological and gastroenterological communities, less is known about it than about, for example, liver pathology. Diagnosis depends on the structure of the pancreatic lesion, which can be directly visualized in US, CT or MR images.

The book's focus is very much on the imaging and pathological appearances, with most of the text concentrated at the beginning of the book followed by images gallery. A comprehensive overview is provided of typical and atypical presentations and diverse aspects of common and rare pancreatic tumors, including ductal adenocarcinomas with dedicated chapter to ductal adenocarcinoma downstaging, neuroendocrine neoplasms, cystic pancreatic neoplasms and intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms.

The Verona "Pancreas Centre,"the first institute of its kind in Italy and one of very few in the world, pursues an interdisciplinary approach to treating the problems of this organ, focusing on the patient, on research, and on teaching. A dedicated center that can look back on 40 years of tradition, many of its respected specialists have made essential contributions in surgery, gastroenterology, oncology, pathology, and radiology.

Given its scope, this atlas will be an invaluable asset, helping radiologists understand the underlying pathology and helping pancreatic pathologists understand the imaging translation.

lt;p>Mirko D'Onofrio is a Full Professor of Radiology at G.B. Rossi University Hospital at the University of Verona, Italy.

President of the regional group Veneto Trentino Alto Adige of Italian Society of Radiology SIRM (Società italiana di Radiologia Medica e Interventistica). He was a chairman of the ESUMB (European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology) European guidelines on the use of contrast media in ultrasound, for interventional ultrasound (IVIM) and for elastosonography in 2008, 2011 and 2016. He is fellow of ESGAR and ICIS.

He currently serves on the editorial boards of several journals, including European Radiology, AJR, Radiology, European Journal of Radiology, WJG, WJR, Ultrasonography and Cancer Imaging. He is also a member of several national and international societies, including SIRM (Società italiana di Radiologia Medica e Interventistica), ESR (European Society of Radiology), ESGAR (European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology) and EFSUMB (European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology), ICIS (International Cancer Imaging Society).

Books published with Springer: Ultrasonography of the Pancreas - Imaging and Pathologic Correlations (2012); Imaging and Pathology of Pancreatic Neoplasms (2015) with a book review in RADIOLOGY (2016); Atlas of Elastography (2016).

Paola Capelli is Pathologist at Department of Pathology at G.B. Rossi Hospital in Verona, where she is also responsible for gastroenterological and pancreatic diagnostics.

Paolo Pederzoli is a Full Professor of Surgery at the University of Verona. He was Chief of the Surgery Department at G.B. Rossi Hospital in Verona. His research focuses on both inflammatory and neoplastic diseases of the pancreas. He pioneered a surgical method involving drainage-lavage of the retro-endo peritoneum, which has since been adopted in the world's main surgery schools and has led to a drop in the mortality rate from 80% to 20%. More recently, his research interest has been in neoplastic diseases, in particular exocrine and endocrine neoplasms. His private hospital (Pederzoli Hospital) is near Verona, making Verona one of the leading centers for this type of disease. Prof. Pederzoli has authored more than 500 publications and is President of the Italian Foundation for Pancreatic Diseases Research (FIMP).
