Society has told us for years that periods are meant to be painful – but that is painfully untrue. In this book, nurse-turned-holistic-practitioner Gemma Barry explains why your periods may hurt, and shares steps you can take to relieve the pain.
Holistic menstrual health coach Gemma Barry wants to put you in control of your menstrual health.

This book is the biology (and feminist politics) lesson you never had at school, helping you – and everyone who menstruates – to understand your bodies.

Gemma spent 15 years as a nurse before receiving her own diagnosis of endometriosis, which inspired her to become a herbalist, abdominal massage therapist and mindfulness teacher, too. She brings to the table this unique mix of both traditional and holistic medicines to show you what options you have to improve your health and wellbeing.

Gemma explores how the taboos surrounding periods may actually be harming your menstrual health, breaks down commonly experienced barriers to medical help, and dives deep into the potential causes of period pain, including toxic products and stress.

Gemma Barry is an ex-nurse, menstrual health coach and comedian. After 15 years working for the NHS nurse and following a diagnosis of endometriosis, she became a qualified herbalist, abdominal massage therapist and mindfulness teacher. She runs Well Woman Project, where she aims to give women the knowledge and confidence to challenge traditional health methods and listen to their own bodies.
