Pediatric Triage Guidelines

Focuses on practical guidelines that can be used to aid the decision-making process involved with paediatric triage. The aim of the text is to aid health care providers standardize and prioritize appropriate health care interventions by considering the child's chief complaint. Section one contains general information about triage, including objective triage, classification of accuity, the riage process, primary and secondary surveys and interviews. Section two consists of reference data that can be used as a resource in triage situations. Information on vital signs and normal parameters, estimation of burn injuries, skin lesions and rashes, skeletol anatomy and triage protocols for altered respiratory and hydration status is contained here. The third section includes standing orders for medications, laboratory procedures and radiological procedures. the final section is the largest section of the book and includes 142 comprehensive paediatric triage protocols. The chief complaint and presenting symptoms of the paediatric patient are presented in four categories: critical; acute; urgent; or non-urgent. Each protocol is presented on a two-page spread for quick and efficient access.
