This special issue -- part 2 in a series devoted to pediatric pain -- provides a useful compendium for synthesizing, evaluating, and interpreting the rapidly expanding literature relating to pain in children. It summarizes results of a randomized trial evaluating the effects of educating parents in the management of their children's postoperative pain, studies adolescents with organic and inorganic abdominal pain, proposes a model integrating pharmacological and behavioral techniques for the management of procedural related pain, and employs a descriptive approach to examine beliefs about medication in children and adolescents who were scheduled to undergo inpatient surgical procedures.
