Cleft Maxillary Reconstruction
Springer International Publishing (Verlag)
978-3-031-24635-7 (ISBN)
Maxillary cleft reconstruction is a uniquely multidisciplinary component in reconstruction of cleft lip and palate. It is one of the most complex phases of rehabilitation, wherein orthodontics, dentistry, and surgery are immediately involved but presentation and eventual outcomes are heavily influenced by operations during the first year of life and by growth that is unpredictable and iatrogenically altered. This book will be of high educational and practical value to all who have an interest in the management of patients with cleft lip and palate.
Pat Ricalde, DDS, MD, FACS, works in private practice at the Florida Craniofacial Institute (FCI), where she is the Director of the FCI fellowship program in cleft and craniofacial surgery, as well as the Director of the Tampa Bay Cleft and Craniofacial Center. She is also an associate professor at the University of South Florida. After graduating magna cum laude from dental school at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, Dr. Ricalde continued her education in Baltimore, first completing medical school and then an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the University of Maryland and Shock Trauma Center. After finishing residency, she completed a fellowship with internationally renowned Dr. Jeffrey C. Posnick. Dr. Ricalde is the author of numerous publications and book chapters and lectures both nationally and internationally on the subject of pediatric craniofacial surgery. She often participates in international mission trips, and is a passionate advocate for children with facial differences.
