This edition provides a guide to the evaluation and treatment of common injuries and disorders occurring in competitive and recreational athletic activities. The first half of the book is devoted to general medical concerns such as nutrition, athletic heart syndrome, drugs and sports-induced asthma. The second half emphasizes the importance of anatomy and physical examinations. Treatment programmes are suggested and benchmarks for referrals to orthopaedic surgeons are presented. Special chapters have been included which present current knowledge in such topical areas as: eating disorders in athletes; sports psychiatry and psychology; and foot, forearm, wrist and hand injuries.
