One hundred years after the deadly influenza pandemic of 1918-1919, the world was struck by another deadly infectious disease caused by a novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. It was believed that a century of scientific developments would make it easier for us to control this pandemic, but successive waves of the disease, new variants of the virus, and vaccine breakthrough infections, made it evident that we remained vulnerable. This pandemic was a wake-up call for all human beings.SARS-CoV-2 is a new coronavirus. All the knowledge we have of it is only about two years old. This book brings together all the information related to the virus and the disease COVID-19, reviews recent research findings which have been published in international journals by scientists all over the world, and provides consolidated knowledge of a virus which has been continuously evolving over the last two years.
