This book discusses the clinical management of adolescents with liver disease bridging the gap between pediatric and adult hepatology patient management. Expert views on liver disease in adolescence are discussed and specific differences for this patient subset are highlighted and examined in depth. The reader will gain the specific knowledge required on pathophysiology and treatment, but also about additional aspects such as psychological difficulties and cultural differences including use of social media.

Information is presented in a manner relevant to clinical practice, and is fully up-to-date in terms of development and integration of new communication technologies in the society. This book offers a fresh insight to this transitional period which will be a great benefit to hepatologists both in pediatric and adult setting.

Edited by two experts in the field and authored by international experts in the area using a multidisciplinary approach, this book is a helpful tool in managing these complex patients and will help minimise their complication rates and improve outcomes by the end of their transition periods.

Dr Marianne Samyn has been part of the Paediatric Hepatology team at King's College Hospital since 2004. She was involved in the setup of the clinical service for young people with liver disease aged 12-25 years in 2009 and has been the clinical lead since. The busy service provides a unique holistic multidisciplinary care model for young people during adolescence and transition to adult services. Aside from adolescent medicine including adherence and mental health, she has an interest in long-term outcome of paediatric liver diseases as well as paediatric liver transplantation and autoimmune liver disease. She is frequently invited on both national and international platforms to share her experience of working with young people with liver disease, amongst others. Dr Samyn has published in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to several textbooks. She is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at King's College Medical School in London.
