Adolescence is a unique developmental period characterized by a time of dramatic physical and psychological changes. It is important for emerging professionals and trainees who wish to work with youth to be familiar with the developmental issues and current trends in substance use and co-existing mental disorders.

Adolescent Co-Occurring Substance Use and Mental Health Disorders is a comprehensive and clinically-oriented resource aimed at students seeking a degree or certificate as an addiction counselor, as well as early-career professionals. The text is broken into three sections: adolescent development (covering physical and psychosocial development), comorbid disorders (such as externalizing and internalizing disorders and addictions), and interventions and treatment (featuring cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectic behavior therapy, and motivational enhancement therapy, among others). Each chapter includes side-bar points of interest, summary highlights, discussion questions, recommendations for further reading, and learner's test questions. Several chapters include case vignettes. This vital resource will be a must-have for trainees in social work, counseling, and psychology, as well as service providers.
