Behavior of periodontal disease in pregnant women

In women, one of the most prone stages to suffer from periodontal disease is pregnancy, where there is a higher prevalence and severity. It is identified as a contributor to the risk of prematurity and intrauterine growth restriction in the presence of traditional obstetric risk factors. Periodontal disease during pregnancy goes beyond being a local oral condition and can have repercussions on the evolution of pregnancy, so we consider it important to identify the presence and severity of periodontal disease in pregnant women as a risk factor to be considered in their comprehensive evaluation.
