She is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Autonomous University of Barcelona. N. Alonso has published a total of 66 scientific articles in indexed journals. Currently, her clinical activity is mainly focused on those conditions that are associated with an increased risk of atheromatous CV disease, with special focus on diabetes mellitus (type 1 and type 2) and familial hypercholesterolemia. In the clinical research field, she is focused on the study of subclinical atheromatosis in patients with diabetes, as well as its association with microvascular complications. In recent years, her scientific activity has also developed on the study of lipotoxicity in diabetes and its association with ectopic fat deposition. She has been principal investigator of several research projects funded by national and international agencies.
