This book is a detailed guide to the identification and appropriate management of patients who represent a high risk when performing oral and maxillofacial surgery or the complex procedures that are increasingly attempted by general dental practitioners. ?Daniel Joseph Meara, MS, MD, DMD, FACS, FICD, is Attending Faculty at Christiana Care Health System, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Wilmington, DE. Dr. Meara is Chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery & Hospital Dentistry at Christiana Care Health System and also an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the College of Health Sciences, University of Delaware. He gained his DMD from the University of Alabama in 2005 and completed an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at that university and a Craniomaxillofacial Surgery Fellowship at West Virginia University/Charleston Area Medical Center. Dr. Meara is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a board member of The Mid-Atlantic Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and President of the Delaware Academy of Medicine/Delaware Public Health Association. In addition to his clinical practice, he is active in research and has published almost 30 original journal articles.
