Lesson on care, compassion, communication and leading through crisis from an extraordinary surgeon on the NHS frontline.
How we, as individuals - and as a society - respond to crisis says a lot about us. How resilient are we? Who do we obey and who do we believe?

With The Careful Surgeon, Dr Shehan Hettiarchy - London's Major Trauma Director - gives us an insight on how to cope with and be our best selves during crisis. Drawing on his experiences leading crisis response teams for some of London's biggest tragedies, as well as his active service with the Parachute Regiment, Dr Hettiarchy teaches us how to remain positive and look forward beyond the hardest moments that we face.

From real, honest patient stories to inspiring snapshots of the true camaraderie of our NHS workforce, Dr Hettiarchy, for the first time, teaches us how to remain calm and stay mentally strong in those difficult moments when crisis hits.

Dr Shehan Hettiaratchy is one of the UK's Leading Surgeons, London's Major Trauma Director, Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Imperial College and University College London and Clinical Lead on the Veterans Trauma Network within the NHS. He led the team treating victims of the Grenfell fire and the Westminster Bridge attack (as documented by BBC's Hospital), amongst other tragic events that have occurred in our city in recent years. Dr H has been named as a Daily Mail Health Hero of the Year and included as part of The Times Alternative Rich List. He has served in the British Army since he left school and is currently a reservist serving with Airborne Forces. He has worked in war zones (Afghanistan, Chechnya, Kosovo) and disaster areas (the Haiti earthquake) as a British Army reservist and volunteer.
