This two-volume textbook provides a comprehensive review of both adult and pediatric gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary and pancreatic pathology. The 1st volume is dedicated to gastrointestinal tract pathology. The second volume of this book covers liver, biliary system, and pancreatic pathology.
This book covers each aspect of gastrointestinal tract pathology in detail, including clinical presentation, endoscopic appearance, disease pathogenesis, gross and microscopic details of each lesion. Ancillary diagnostic methods, molecular subtypes, and prognostic workup have been detailed adequately. The book also covers diseases relevant to South-East Asia, in addition to diseases prevalent worldwide. It contains 24 chapters, categorized into four sections. Section I covers the general aspects of gastrointestinal pathology including normal anatomy of the gastrointestinal tract, endoscopic details relevant for gastrointestinal pathologists and histopathologists, grossing techniques, utility of and details of ancillary tests needed; section II covers all benign diseases in different anatomical parts of the gastrointestinal tract; section III covers preneoplastic lesions and malignancies of the gastrointestinal tract, including a separate chapter on updated molecular classifications of gastrointestinal tract tumors arising from different segments; section IV includes a unique chapter on setting up a gastrointestinal pathology laboratory. This textbook has been written and edited by experts in the field with proven academic and research excellence and include curated contents to provide lucid and updated information to the readers.




 The book features more than 800 photographs, line diagrams, endoscopic and radiology pictures, gross and microscopic images. It includes 'Chapter Summary' at the end of each chapter and ‘Learning Tips’ summarized after each major segment that helps the readers to reinforce the knowledge gained fromeach chapter. Chapters also contain case studies and/ or multiple-choice questions to enable readers to self-assess and learn from the explanations added. The textbook includes many unique chapters. It also covers cytological details and techniques relevant to gastrointestinal pathology.

Dr Prasenjit Das (MD, DNB, MNAMS, MNASc) is currently working as an Additional Professor of Pathology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, India. He did his pathology training from Postgraduate Institute of Medical Research and Education, Chandigarh, India and thereafter was trained in gastrointestinal pathology under several eminent mentors. His research areas are celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal tuberculosis, colorectal and pancreato-biliary carcinomas, non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases, vascular diseases of the liver, liver failures, and chronic liver diseases. He has more than 18 years of teaching and research experience and has published more than 197 peer-reviewed articles, including 109 original research articles to date. He also has many book chapters to his credit. He is a member of several national and international academic societies including the Rodger C. Haggitt Gastrointestinal Pathology Society,and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP), USA, International Academy of Pathology-Indian Division, Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologist, and Indian Association of Gastroenterologists to name a few. He is serving as an associate editor of the Indian Journal of Pathologists & Microbiologists. He has received several awards including Prof N C Nayak Talented Young Pathologist Award (2012) from the Delhi chapter of IAPM, the Young Investigator Award from Indian Society of Gastroenterology, India (2015), ISG Abbott Presidential Poster Award (2015), Prof. KC Basu Mallick Award (2011) of IAPM, Research Excellence Award (2017) from AIIMS, New Delhi, Professor VR Khanolkar award (2018) and Professor Kunti Devi Mahrotra award (2019) from the Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists. He was a core committee member for formulating the joint IAPM-ISG consensus practicing guidelines on handling and interpretation of small bowel biopsies inpatients with celiac disease in 2021. He is also an active member of the International Working Group on celiac disease. Professor Siddhartha Datta Gupta (MBBS, DCP, MD, FICPath, FIMSA, FAMS) was trained in clinical pathology from Bangalore Medical College and did his postgraduation from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, India. He is trained in liver pathology including liver transplant pathology as a British Council Study Fellow at the Royal Free Hospital & School of Medicine, London. Currently having superannuated, he served as Professor and one of the Deans at AIIMS, New Delhi. He also worked as a faculty member at St Johns Medical College, Bangalore, and as Professor and Head at the Asian Institute of Medical, Science, and Technology (AIMST) University, Malaysia. His areas of interest include liver and gastrointestinal pathology having worked in areas of acute and chronic hepatitis, chronic gastritis, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, to name a few. With an experience of over 35 years as a teacher, he has mentored several generations of students. He has been involved in the development of the pathology curriculum for both undergraduate and postgraduates. He has been a member of international and national committees related to nomenclature of acute and subacute liver failure, celiac disease, hepatocellular carcinoma in India, and consensus statement of acute liver failure. He has served as an editorial board member of the Indian Journal of Gastroenterology, Indian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology, Hepatitis B Annual, Indian Journal of Laboratory Medicine and is an associate editor for the Indian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology. He has published over 340 papers in peer-reviewed national and international journals and has contributed chapters in textbooks and monographs.  Dr Kaushik Majumdar (MD, DNB, MNAMS, DipRCPath) is currently working asSpecialist Pathology in Al Sabah Hospital, Kuwait. He has done MD in pathology from Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India. He has also earned the Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in pathology and Diplomate of Royal College of Pathology (DipRCPath), UK. He has around 80 publications in national and international indexed journals and one book chapter. He has delivered many invited talks and received awards in national and international conferences. He has around 15 years of experience in anatomic and clinical pathology, along with experience as faculty in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research. His principal areas of interest include gastrointestinal pathology, liver pathology, and pancreatico-biliary pathology. He is a reviewer of many prestigious national and international journals. He had also been a reviewer of postgraduate thesis and had been an examiner in pathology in prestigious institutes in India.
