He specialises in molecular biology, laboratory medicine, and clinical research, with a particular focus on bacteriophages. He is the author of a number of articles published in both national and international journals.G.P. Dutta obtained a PhD and a DSc from Punjab University, India, in 1961 and 1973 respectively. He edited Experimental and Clinical Amoebiasis (1989), and was the recipient of the SS Bhatnagar Prize in 1976.
