Maternity Nursing

Part 1 Nursing, family health and reproduction: philosophy of family centered care; the nursing process in maternity care; vital statistics; the family and nursing practice; evolving family forms; sociocultural influences on reproductive care; ethical/legal consideration in reproduction. Part 2 Biophysical aspects of human reproduction: sexual and reproductive anatomy and physiology; human sexual response; conception and development of the embryo and foetus. Part 3 Assessment and management in sexuality and reproduction: sexual health and management of family planning; clinical interruption of pregnancy; management of infertility; genetic counseling and diagnosis during pregnancy. Part 4 Assessment and management in the antepartum period: biophysical aspects of normal pregnancy; psychosocial aspects of pregnancy; education for pregnancy and parenthood; nutritional care in pregnancy; nursing care in the antepartal period. Part 5 Assessment and management in the intrapartum period: assessment of the passageway and passenger; phenomenon of labour; management of normal labour; the nurse's contribution to pain relief during labour; analgesia and anaesthesia during childbirth; immediate care of the newborn.
