Covering normal and high risk maternity nursing, this 3rd edition has been updated to reflect the needs of today's nursing practice. It includes expanded coverage of maternal-newborn home care in response to shorter hospital stays and greater emphasis on care in the home throughout the childbearing experience. This edition retains its student-accessible style and includes pedagogical elements designed to test student's content knowledge and critical thinking skills. Case studies and reality-based nursing planning and intervention are helpful in imagining practical situations for the student, and the cultural background and family involvement in the nursing of the client are important themes integrated throughout the text. New to this edition are teaching plans for "Home Care" boxes and expanded content on home care for the mother and newborn, which goes some way to stressing the importance of home care in the overall nursing care. "Care Maps" and "Decision Trees" are included in the book as examples of clinical, collaborative tools, designed to introduce the student to care implementation in the clinical environment.
