To honour the outstanding contribution Gorer made to the science of immunology, an international symposium was held in London in November 1983 under the auspices of the British Society for Immunology. This volume contains the papers presented to the symposium by specialists in the field.

Peter A. Gorer embarked on the discovery of the H-2 major histocompatibility system of mice about 50 years ago, and the significance of this discovery has far surpassed his initial expectations. To honour the outstanding contribution Gorer made to the science of immunology, an international symposium was held in London in November 1983 under the auspices of the British Society for Immunology. This volume contains the papers presented to the symposium by specialists in the field of immunogenetics. It intended as a reference source, and as a commemoration of a fundamental discovery in immunology.
