Joseph J. Mistovich, M.Ed, NREMT-P. Joseph Mistovich is Chairperson of the Department of Health Professions and a Professor at Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio. He has over 18 years of experience as an educator in emergency medical services. Mr. Mistovich received his Master of Education degree in Community Health Education from Kent State University in 1988. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Applied Science degree with a major in Allied Health in 1985, and an Associate in Applied Science degree in Emergency Medical Technology in 1982 from Youngstown State University. Mr. Mistovich has over 22 years of experience providing advanced life support in the prehospital environment and continues to function as a paramedic on a part-time basis. He is a co-author of Advanced Medical Life Support, Second Edition and Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Second Edition, both by Brady/Prentice Hall/ Pearson Education. He is also author of EMT-Intermediate Self-Assessment Review Manual and EMT-Basic Self-Assessment Review Manual, also by Brady/Prentice Hall/Pearson Education. Keith J. Karren, Ph.D. Keith J. Karren is Professor and former Chairperson of the Department of Health Sciences at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He has been a professional educator in health sciences and emergency medical services for over 30 years. Dr. Karren received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Brigham Young University in 1969 and 1970 and his Ph.D. in Health Science from Oregon State University in 1975. He graduated from one of the first EMT certification courses offered in Utah. Dr. Karren is the author or coauthor of numerous books in prehospital emergency care and health, including First Aid for Colleges and Universities and First Responder: A Skills Approach. He also directs the Prehospital Emergency Care and Crisis Intervention Conference, one of the premier EMS conferences in North America.
