Ana Clara Cristóvão obtained her PhD in Biology from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, in 2010. In 2011, she was accepted as Associate Researcher in the Division of Neuroscience at Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences of the University of Central Florida. She is currently an Assistant Researcher at the Health Sciences Research Centre of the University of Beira Interior, Portugal, and her research focuses on the role of oxidative stress derived from NADPH oxidase (Nox) enzymes in the pathologic process occurring in Parkinson’s disease. She is the author of 21 articles appearing in publications such as Journal of Neuroscience, Frontiers in Chemistry, and Journal of Controlled Release, among others.Liliana Bernardino obtained her PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, in 2008. She received a Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Research Prize in 2008 and the L’Oréal Portugal Medal of Honor for Women in Science in 2010. She is currently Assistant Professor at the University of Beira Interior, Portugal, and her research focuses on identifying and developing novel brain repair therapies for Parkinson’s disease. Raquel Ferreira concluded her PhD studies on the modulatory role of neuropeptide Y in microglia activity at the University of Coimbra, Portugal, in 2011. She has worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Southern California and as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Beira Interior, Portugal, where she now works as an Assistant Researcher. She received the L’Oréal Portugal Medal of Honor for Women in Science in 2014, a Portuguese Society for Cerebrovascular Diseases Research Grant in 2016, and a BD Biosciences Immunology Grant in 2015. She has co-authored 38 articles and three book chapters.
