Contrasting to older and standard textbooks, this work gives hallmark references, discusses on dose adjustment rules, introduced a measure for the effect duration, shows how the Hill coefficient can be interpreted by the threshold and ceiling concentration. It shows a derivation for the irreversible effects and it outlines the kinetics during extracorporeal elimination. When treating a patient, the physician must reach an individual decision for each specific case at hand. Often none and occasionally more than one guideline applies with recommendations that sometimes contradict one another. It can make it easier to find an individualized medication if the physicians know when, where and why the selected drug will work. This book tries to put the information about medicines into equations so as to make the general knowledge more understandable and thus better applicable to the individual patient in question. Such individualized decisions will expand the body of practical experience. We hope that this approach will inspire further interest in clinical science and basic research.
