The subject of this book is the operative treatment of small-bone fractures which demand a specially refined instrumentarium and small implants. The emphasis is on articular fractures, particularly in the shoulder girdle, elbow, hand, talocalcaneal joint and foot, and minor fractures in the area of the knee. The book is intended as a companion volume to the "Manual of Internal Fixation". The bulk of the text is concerned with indications and step-by-step techniques illustrated in semidiagrammatic figures. Each chapter contains examples of typical clinical radiographs, accompanied in some cases by details of long-term results. New additions to the AO instrumentarium and techniques have been integrated into this third edition. Alternative techniques which have proved their worth in recent years are also described and illustrated.
The aim of the book is to promote a greater depth of knowledge among surgeons and orthopaedists who nead to familiarize themselves with the operative traumatology and reconstruction of the smaller bones. All material has been completely revised and substantial additions made for the third edition.
