Amy R. Koehn, PhD, NNP-BC, received her PhD in nursing from Indiana University in 2014 and joined the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) nursing faculty in 2015 as the concentration coordinator for the DNP NNP program. She received her MSN from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in 2001 and her BSN from Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas, in 1993. She has over 20 years' experience as a neonatal nurse practitioner (NNP) in a variety of level III and IV NICUs in roles both at the bedside and as a team member for neonatal air and ground transports. From the beginning of her NNP career, Dr. Koehn was expected to engage in quality improvement projects within the NICU, which led to the habit of seeking evidence-based best practices for the care of our fragile patients. She has developed continuing education programs for both nursing staff and APRN practitioners. As a mentor for novice practitioners, she developed orientation and education programs for newly graduated NNPs. Her long-standing clinical and recent academic experiences serve as evidence of the qualification to guide in maintaining the relevance of the ever-evolving NNP role. Dr. Koehn shares her love of learning through lectures at the local, state, and national levels for both academic and commercial purposes. These activities promote continued sharing, learning, and participation in the camaraderie that is the basis to provide the best care for babies and their families!
