This volume comprises basic protocols by leading experts which aim to provide a broad spectrum of easily reproducible methods for analyzing gene, mRNA, and protein expression, as well as the function of cytokines and cytokine receptors. The protocols use a variety of model systems and types of samples and include some on gene polymorphism, ligand-receptor interactions, signalling routes and soluble cytokine binding proteins. Strategies for the search of new cytokine (receptor) genes, purification and characterization of cytokine (receptors), design of cytokine antagonists, and the use of cytokine antagonists to modulate cytokine activity are also presented.
