McGuinness is the pharmacy librarian in the Biomedical Library and an assistant clinical professor in the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of California, San Diego in La Jolla. Philip E. Bourne is a professor of pharmacology in the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of California, San Diego in La Jolla. He is also the associate director of the RCSB Protein Data Bank.
